Singing Group

This class has been taking place out of doors at the village hall under covid guidelines, however classes will cease during the winter, hopefully to return in the spring. Contact Clare for further details.

The Singing Group has been in Smailholm since 2009 and is run by Clare Watson.  Clare trained as an actress and has led many workshops on different subjects including drama, plant studies and landscape study. She later trained as a pharmacist and works part time as a locum. Clare is doing research into creating theatre out of the landscape and will be setting up a theatre company in the near future.  She also hopes soon to be working for Borders Youth Theatre.

Clare teaches songs by ear, so that anyone can attend. Most of the songs are in three part harmony but as the group has grown in size it may soon be large enough to sing in four parts. Clare brings a varied selection of songs from the very easy to the more challenging - the evening may start the with nursery rhymes to warm up and finish with a jazz song.

The aim of the group is enjoyment and not performance so it doesn’t matter if people sing the wrong notes. Even so, if you ever happen to go by on a Thursday evening you will hear a lovely harmonic sound.

The group meets every Thursday evening from 8.00 to 9.30.
